A Legacy of Excellence
Like many of his peers with a taste for adventure, Bill Norwood grasped the opportunity of a foreign posting with the National Bank of India, and with it the seeds of a love affair with a continent were sown. His safari experiences over five years saw several border crossings; his beloved Chevrolet christened ‘Agatha’ a constant and trusted companion. With the dedicated help of his wife Margo, whom he had secretly wed in England and had arranged to meet in Nairobi, he produced a diary: ‘Africa Calling’, full of narrow escapes, close encounters and tales of derring-do. Bill’s diary discretely adorned the Norwood family bookshelves for over a decade, until his grandson read the entries and was inspired to follow in the footsteps of his late grandfather. Through relatives and friends, he met Nikos Pocock, a safari guide of great knowledge, enthusiasm and compassion. Together with his great friend Fiona, the three amigos together with ‘Agatha’ mark two, christened ‘Martha’, went on a safari with the diary as their guide, using Bill’s photographs as evidence of his passage through this magnificent landscape. With inspiration from this first journey into the past comes AFRICA CALLING SAFARIS. Nikos Pocock is proud to head up as Director and guide to this fresh new company specializing in customised Safaris for the independent traveller in East Africa. Its ethos is inspired by those first wanderings over a rocky escarpment in search of a view towards a mountain photographed 70 years ago.

Since 1995, I have dedicated my life to guiding safaris, driven by a deep passion for nature, wildlife, and environmental conservation. My connection with the wilderness and my desire to make a meaningful impact on the community have shaped my expertise in this field.
Interacting with wildlife sparked a curiosity within me — once a flickering flame, now an enduring inferno. This passion led me to explore my creative potential, eventually identifying an economic niche that perfectly aligned with my love for safaris. From this vision, Africa Calling Safaris was born.
