Responsible tourism

Discover a new way to travel—one that is unique, not only do we take you to some of the world’s hidden gems of destinations that are remote and little known to the world yet they still practise their raw traditions proudly , but  also find ways within our means to help protect them.

We believe that travelling can be a perfect way to impact life and add value to the environment. There is nothing soul fulfilling like visiting vulnerable regions and supporting and empowering their community-driven conservation/sustainability efforts, your journey changes from an ordinary trip to a quest; a calling. That means more!

At Africa Calling Safaris we promote responsible tourism.

As a way to minimize the footprints of our clients while ensuring that both the local community and the environment benefit. We carefully design our tours in a way that you get more from nature by impacting the local communities, by being closer and dipping ourselves into the authenticity of rich cultures of the vibrant locals and exceptional experiences at the same time advocating for environmental sustainability and conservation.

Wherever possible, we try to combine and align our rich love for the great outdoors with conservation/sustainability goals.

Our Accommodation Partners

Africa Calling Safaris carefully selects and partners with hotels/lodges/camps that are located in strategic locations – on the front row of wildlife concentration, best scenic views and best luxury beaches that offer the client/traveller maximum possibilities of game viewing and photographic activities located in the midst of the wilderness.

The properties are built within environmental blending materials and are environmentally friendly. They also practise eco-tourism, energy conservation and sustainability. I.e. They have embraced solar energy and reduced carbon footprints on our fragile ecosystem.

Most of these properties also employ locals. So, as you travel with us, you will be creating and enhancing employment opportunities for the local people who neighbour tourism resources. Moreover, all the properties that we use are dedicated to buying produce from local stalls and markets and also making a range of traditional tasty meals. Guests might have the chance to order for an African specialty on request. By travelling in a small group, you are familiar with, be it friends, accomplices, family, honeymoon vacation, you will be able to freely interact and easily enjoy your own personal space and do activities and therefore adds flexibility to the itinerary with reason on mutual agreement with your tour organise

Conservation

The activity fees in some conservancies, animal shelters and some parks go directly towards protecting the fragile environment where there might be endangered species and or attractions like Sheldrick’s Elephant Sanctuary, Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, the Giraffe Centre among others.

We participate in garbage and waste management events organised by the community, organisations or individual environmentalists with the same purpose to make a change.

We also stress on litter -free in our briefings before kicking off of events, in hiking trails, parks, conservancies or any type of a safari.

We visit and lecture students in local schools to educate, sensitize and raise awareness on litter management in primary schools, so that as they grow, they are aware of their big responsibility to protect and care for their environment.

We organise staff environmental days as well as partner with other nature enthusiasts/organisations or national events organised with an aim to conserve/protect or sustain the environment in the community I.e. tree planting exercises.

We also provide seedlings and seed balls; a low cost and effective means of fast plantation, by encasing the seeds in a mixture of common soil and compost. This protects the seeds by preventing them from drying out in the sun, getting eaten by birds, animals or from blowing away(we partner with Seedballs Kenya) and seed pods; an elongated dry fruit that develops from one or more carpels of a flower, splits open along a seam, and contains seeds that may be attached to the wall of the pod from local entrepreneurs to every client heading for a safari with us. We give you the opportunity to participate in this noble cause.

Reducing Plastic Pollution

There is a high concern about the effects the world is facing from plastic pollution. The aquatic life, wildlife are at high risk of being affected  as  well as our future generations. As part of an effort to participate in the sustainable safari campaign, we offer our clients who book with us, free  reusable water bottles that are well designed to hold any kind of drink.

Our Land Cruisers are also fitted with dispensable water tanks that are filled every time they’re empty  with clean water. We ensure you get clean water all through the safari

Community

By travelling with us, you contribute to household welfare of the rangers, and local guides or porters who help by either guiding you during the trek, carry your luggage or even carry the unable trekkers on a stretcher The local tour guides, drivers and porters we employ are well conversant with the environment you will visit. By choosing to travel with us, you will be enhancing employment opportunities and improving their financial situations.

Beyond this, we also work directly with a number of charitable organizations in the destinations like initiating and supporting educational programmes for children coming from humble backgrounds, donating school learning materials, water drilling in water scarce areas and providing medical camps – all in the remote areas of Northern Kenya.

Promoting Ethical Safari Souvenirs

We ensure our guests buy souvenirs that are not made from wildlife products such as Tusks and horns. These products might have been sourced from animals killed for them, denying wildlife their right to live. With a strict ban on wildlife product trade, one is guaranteed a lifetime in jail in Kenya. We, therefore, advise our guests not to carry, buy, or claim to own any wildlife product that might land them in the hands of tough law

Join us in making a positive impact while at the same time enjoying the beats and sounds of nature in untouched, unexploited, clean and a thriving environment by safeguarding biodiversity, restoring ecosystems, and empowering those who live in vulnerable areas. It’s about making this world a better place for you and for the future generations.
